Candowie Reservoir, Gippsland Victoria
Zero Chemicals for Over Six Years — Minimal Energy Use
Location
Candowie Reservoir supplies drinking water to Phillip Island, Victoria, serving a peak summer population of around 40,000.
Challenge
The reservoir faced recurring blue-green algae issues. Traditional chemical treatments were costly, environmentally damaging, and not sustainable for long-term use in a potable water supply.
Solution
Five EnviroSonic ES300 ultrasound units were installed, powered by solar panels mounted on two floating pontoons. Each pontoon includes GSM remote monitoring and treats a 600-metre radius, covering the entire water body efficiently and sustainably.
Size of Site
An irregular oval, approximately 1,000 metres in length and 500 metres wide.
Results
No chemical applications required for over six years
Minimal energy costs, thanks to solar power
Algae levels remain consistently low, even in high nutrient or warm conditions
“Since the EnviroSonic has been installed, the results have been very encouraging. We have not dosed our reservoir with any copper product for ten years. There have been no chemical costs to treat algae and minimal electrical costs to run the EnviroSonic, as four of the units are solar powered.”
